Recently I’ve been looking at new ways to change the way my family eats. For ease, I tend to just throw something in the oven, I don’t do very much home cooking – the type where you make everything from scratch.
I was sent two sachets to try from the Schwartz 2in1 Recipe Range. Here’s what I thought of them:
Garlic & Thyme Roast Chicken + Crispy Roast Potatoes
My family loves a good roast dinner, or at least I do, so this was the dinner I was eager to start.
I followed the instructions except I didn’t use a whole chicken as there’s always far too much meat for my little family, so I used chicken portions.
Pre-heat oven to 190°C, 375°F, Gas Mark 5.
Place the chicken on a roasting tray and score the breasts and legs.
Mix the oil and Garlic & Thyme Roast Chicken Seasoning together and brush over the chicken. Cover with foil and place into the oven for 35 minutes. (In my case, I actually put the potatoes and chicken all in at once for 45 minutes)
Add the oil for the potatoes to a separate roasting tray, place in the oven to pre-heat for around 10 mins. Cut potatoes into 5cm (2”) chunks, and boil for 8 mins. Drain, place potatoes into the roasting tray with oil and sprinkle with the Crispy Roast Potato Seasoning.
Cook for 45 minutes, then dish up 🙂 Seriously, just how yummy does that dinner look!! We all thoroughly enjoyed the taste of the seasoning on the chicken and potatoes. It was very unusual, but my OH did comment that he wants to have all our roasts done like this in the future, so we will be buying again!
Mediterranean Chicken Pasta + Cheesy Crumb Topping
Unfortunately the food didn’t come out very well, the pasta was under-cooked. I knew this would happen because I always pre-cook my pasta for a pasta bake, and against my better judgment I decided to follow the instructions of not pre-cooking the pasta. So we ended up chucking this dish away, however, we nibbled at the flavours and ate the chicken… Which was very yummy so it would have been an amazing dinner if I’d listened to my own head.
Basically the instructions went like this:
Cook the chicken until brown. Mix the Mediterranean Chicken sachet with 150mls water, pour over the chicken in a frying pan. Add 400g of tinned tomatoes. Stir and heat until boiling.
Add the pasta to the frying pan and cook.
Grill for 5-6 minutes or until cheese is bubbling.
This dish would definitely suit someone who’s been at work all day, or had a busy day and just needs something quick and easy to fix together. It would definitely be wonderful if the pasta was pre-cooked… My fault!
