It’s the season for Great British Bake Off and like every season (there’s now 7!) I am completely mesmerised by all the amazing bakes that are coming on our screens. To celebrate GBBO being back, we have been sent a selection of baking kits for kids to enjoy.
We are starting our baking off with the Real Baking Cookie Kit. Inside the kit comes with an instruction leaflet, 14 cute plastic cookie cutters, a rolling pin, a silicone baking sheet and the special rolling tray. This rolling tray is designed to make biscuits the correct thickness no matter how many times children roll over it. This really appealed to me.
I decided to use a morning where it was just P3 and me to test this kit out. I don’t normally think about baking with P3 as I always thought she was too little to understand the concept of it all. But actually she had lots of fun. We planned to make gingerbread biscuits, so I measured out the following ingredients:
- 6oz Self Raising Flour
- 4 oz Soft Brown Sugar
- 1 level tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
- 2 oz Butter
- 1 heaped tsp Ground Ginger
- 1 rounded tsp Golden Syrup
- 1 Egg
P3 helped to combine all the ingredients into a bowl, leaving the egg until last. It was a little sticky so we had to add some more flour just to stiffen it up a bit and make it easier to roll. P3 was so excited to get involved and instantly began prodding the dough. I showed her how to use the rolling pin and she soon got the hang of things.
The Real Baking Cookie Kit is really designed for children aged six and above but I think this is more to do with being able to do it by themselves because P3 managed to cut out the biscuits and roll the dough with assistance. I was actually so proud to see P3 Baking for the first time. The Real Baking Cookie Kit costs £14.99 and is really good value.
Look how delicious P3s little Gingerbread biscuits look! They are the first batch of ginger biscuits we’ve ever made to perfection, just like a shop bought one. I was so proud and all of the kids have enjoyed munching them. Mary Berry would be pleased too!
Keep an eye out for the next Real Baking product we are reviewing and hopefully more scrummy bakes with the kids.
