Citadines Holborn-Covent Garden Review

We are certainly not strangers to staying in hotels and this year already has seen us spend a few nights in a hotel. Hubby, P3 and I stayed at the Citadines Holborn-Covent Garden Apart Hotel in London on Friday night for BritMums Live which was held at The Brewery not far from the Citadines Holborn-Covent Garden Apart Hotel.

We were looking for somewhere close to the Brewery and also close to shops or attractions so that Hubby could keep himself occupied whilst I was at the blogging conference for a day and a half. The Citadines Holborn-Covent Garden Apart Hotel is situated just around the corner from the famous hustle and bustle of Covent Garden, The London Transport Museum and the Royal Opera House. There are also excellent underground links from Holborn being practically opposite or Chancery Lane a few minutes walk.

citadines arriving

The first impressions of the Citadines Holborn-Covent Garden Apart Hotel were fantastic, the front doors were locked permanently which reassured me of safety as I’m quite a nervous traveller when it comes to being in London especially with the children.

The staff were helpful and understanding. The booking had been made for just one adult despite originally booking for two adults and one baby, the man serving us told me not to worry and arranged for a cot to be sent up to our room. I had to do the usual signing of forms and providing a credit card number. The lifts were also only operational if you had a room key which was again a wonderful feature.

studio room

We were on the fifth floor which meant we were away from the noise of the crowded streets below us. As I opened the room door to the Studio Apartment I was astounded. It was bright and airy compared to the dark corridors and the ceilings were incredibly high. I was in awe and P3 spent a long time just staring up at the ceiling. The room was decorated in a grey scheme with green in the kitchen, red splashed on the bed and curtains. A real contemporary feel.

Bed linen, towels, hair/body wash and toilet rolls were all provided. The bit that made this hotel room very different to others I’ve stayed in around the UK was the kitchen facility. It was a fully functional kitchen with jobs, fridge and a microwave. All utensils were provided including a toaster, kettle and saucepans. There was even a bottle of Fairy Washing Up Liquid and a sponge!

cooking facilities

Considering the “Dining In/Room Service” prices were roughly £10-£14 per meal, we decided to head to Waitrose which is opposite to grab a ready meal as I was starving from BritMums Live. This allowed me to make use of the cooking facilities and it was truly a home from home experience.

The Citadines Holborn-Covent Garden Apart Hotel also has a gym and laundry facilities. We were unfortunately unable to take a look ourselves as we had a young baby with us but I loved that you didn’t need to pay extra for the gym and wish I’d packed my gym gear.

citadines stuff

Although the pillows were a little hard for my liking, I slept soundly on the soft mattress and more importantly for us P3 slept soundly which is unusual for her in hotels or anywhere but her own bed. There’s even free wifi and a TV in the room. The room was air-conditioned and wasn’t a confusing operating system to it either which meant I was able to adjust it without waking Hubby in the night.

breakfast citadines

There’s a relaxing seating area to use and this is also where breakfast is served in the mornings. I was a little shocked to realise there was only a small selection of hot food available which was quite basic but I do think this is due to the hotel being focused more for long/self catering stays rather than the one night we enjoyed. There was however, fresh croissants, cereal, juices and toast avaliable.

There are several room options at the Citadines Holborn-Covent Garden Apart Hotel; Studio, Studio Deluxe and 1 Bed Apartment. They are priced at over £140 a night. With location, facilities and comfort taken into consideration as well as the kind and helpful staff who also allowed us to have a slightly later checkout and use of the luggage room, it is certainly worth the price.
