There’s many views on whether to take a child in to visit a poorly relative/friend. I know people frown upon it but I see no harm.
My Nan has been in and out of hospital for a very long time. Definitely all of P1s life and majority of it she has watched my Nan dialyse in my Grandparents home. Watching my Grandad insert very large needles into my Nan and seeing the blood come out into the “robot” and clean my Nan’s blood. It doesn’t bother P1 and never has.
So when my Nan has had bad turns, a stroke or heart attack and has ended up in hospital I’ve never thought twice about taking P1 in to visit her. Again, it doesn’t bother her. I remember the first time, I asked the nurses if it was ok, and they simply said that it was my choice and that I must understand there are germs and infections.
My Nan is the type of person who gives up easily, she hates being in hospital and she’s been known to stop eating properly, so when I saw her face light up when seeing P1, I knew that I’d made the right decision. I honestly believe it helps her to focus on what’s important… Getting better!!
P2 has visited twice this past week. It was the first time I’d seen my Nan smile, then the next day she was so much brighter, sitting in the chair and not in her bed. She’s still got a long way to go with getting her strength back but there’s talks of her coming home this Tuesday.
My visions of stealing my Nan from hospital, with ribbon to decorate her wheelchair for our wedding have now gone.
