As a parent you want to do the absolute best for your child and I personally want to give them experiences that they’ll remember when they’re older and able to tell their own children. In July we were able to make P2s dream come true and go to Peppa Pig World and since then she has been begging us to go there whenever we ask her to choose somewhere to go at the weekends.
When the Marriott Hotels asked me if I’d like to receive a complimentary stay in return for a review I just couldn’t say no and we booked in to the Meon Valley Marriott Hotel & Country Club which is in Southampton. Just half an hour from Peppa Pig World. We told the girls that we were going on a little weekend mini break and there was going to be a big surprise whilst we were away.
On arrival we were greeted by a really friendly member of staff. She welcomed us, asked me to fill in and sign a document, given our key cards and was told the opening times for breakfast, the leisure centre and restaurants. We then headed to the very top floor to our bedroom. My first impressions of the room was that the decor was very brown and dark. Please see my room tour below or click here. The room was spacious with plenty of area to move around the two double beds, chair and table, desk and TV unit. Coffee/tea and milk was provided with takeaway cups which were super cute and a kettle. There’s also an iron and ironing board provided in the room, towels, bathroom toiletries and a safe deposit box.
Staying in a hotel room, all in one room, always causes trouble with the kids at bedtime. So in the lead up we scoffed lots of snacks and pot noodles for dinner, bathed the girls and let them relax with the iPad. The lights were switched off by 9pm and we were all asleep pretty quickly. It was very odd to be in bed and asleep that early. Of course I didn’t sleep well with P2 waking P3 and vice versa throughout the night. Hubby also said he found the noises from the car park quite disturbing and I agree that it was quite busy throughout the night.
In the morning we were up nice and early as we had the big surprise to reveal to the children, who were still blissfully unaware and I have no idea how I kept my mouth shut without accidentally dropping the name into conversation. We headed down for breakfast. I was quite anxious about what I’d find as breakfast never really excites me when we stay at hotels. I was quite pleasantly amazed. The staff who greeted us and showed us to our seats were so friendly and accommodating. They got a highchair and gave P2 some plastic cutlery. There was a huge range of foods on offer, from cereals, fresh fruit, porridge, pastries and of course hot Full English selection.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen P1 eat so much, she had cereal, toast and some fruit with salami! After breakfast we headed in the car to Peppa Pig World. P2 wasn’t feeling 100% with a high temperature from the cold/cough she’s been suffering with and she was fast asleep when we arrived into Paultons Park car park. P1 was instructed to stay quiet and I could see the excitement in her eyes as she read the sign and realised where we were. Our day was fantastic though, we took things slowly seeing as we were only there a few months ago and we knew what rides we were desperate to go on first.
When we got back to the hotel we decided to go swimming. Marriott Hotel supplies towels for the swimming pool. The changing rooms were clean with lockers. The Marriott Hotel has a swimming pool, health and beauty spa and a fitness centre. The pool starts at 0.9m deep and the maximum point is 1.2m, this meant the girls couldn’t really splash around freely and were clinging onto us but they still really enjoyed it. After swimming we got changed and went for dinner. We pre-booked our meal at the Zest restaurant as we were told this was a little more child friendly and didn’t require a dress code, like the Broadstreet restaurant where a formal dress is required. The meal was rather expensive, a Chicken Tikka Masala for £15, but it was delicious. The girls were being menaces and I sort of wish we’d had room service instead. The staff again were superb.
Meon Valley Marriott Hotel & Country Club is situated on a golf course and golfing is certainly predominant as you wander around the grounds and hotel. There are pictures of the golfing captains in restaurant and I think that most of the guests are also golfing related with their club logos on their shirts. Our stay at the Marriott Hotel was nearly flawless, the only issue or gripe we had was that to get wireless internet in our room we would have had to pay extra. After looking at the room rates this would cost £5 more per night to have internet included in the room price. A 2 night stay would cost around £250 with internet provided. I do think that with technology being a huge part of life now that internet should just be included for no extra cost.
With my operation recently and the kids driving me bonkers, it was such a breath of fresh air to get out of the normal routine of every day life. Our stay at the Meon Valley Marriott was fantastic and close to so many local attractions, set in a stunning location and would be perfect for both couples and families. We would highly recommend this hotel!
