I’ve started to get a bit stuck for ideas when it comes to the weekends when we just have P3. I feel like we’ve exhausted the park and soft play is always packed at weekends. She’s not quite old enough for big trips to the local castles either. I posted on social media that we were struggling for an idea last weekend and thankfully someone made me aware of it being Open Farm Sunday.
Open Farm Sunday is a big event across the UK where over 1,000 farmers open their gates to the public for one Sunday each year. I used the handy little map to locate our local farm taking part and was surprised to find quite a few. We picked one called Park Farm which was closest and seemed to have the best children’s activities available too.
I didn’t think it would be a busy event for some reason but I was very wrong. A field had been turned into a car park and it was packed with so many cars with people everywhere. It cost us a pound each to enter and we were able to wander freely through the farm. It’s a dairy farm mainly I think and we were able to get close to the cows. They had a milk demonstration at 2pm and a BBQ which had a ginormous queue. It was such a lovely day and the sun shone too.
I’ve put next years date in the diary, 11th June 2017, as P3 really enjoyed herself and I’d love to visit with the other two as well. I’m also hoping that by having it in my diary I will be able to plan a bit better so we can visit several local farms and support our community farming industry. We had a wonderful half hour just wandering around before heading to McDonalds for a treat lunch.
Did you go to an Open Farm last Sunday?
