My Goals For 2016

The past year seems to have flown by. I think I probably say that every year but it does feel like this time last year I had a newborn baby then I blinked and I’m about to enter 2016 with two toddlers and a child.

Last year I set myself 5 goals; to lose weight, see friends more, do more activities with the girls, make an effort with my appearance and keep up with P1s school work. For the first six months of 2015 I did so well at losing weight, I was motivated and I felt amazing as I saw my chub come off my tummy but then I put it all back on and I’m roughly the same weight as when I started. However, the rest of the goals I did keep, 2015 was my most social year yet with dinner dates with girl friends and going to playgroups and classes in the area. I wear makeup nearly every day and P1s doing well at school.

This year I’m setting myself 16 goals for 2016. It seems appropriate and I found putting this list together quite easy as I have big plans for next year that I’m desperate to keep to. I feel excited about what’s to come in the next 12 months and even more excited to be able to share it on my blog. So here are my 16 goals, in no particular order of importance;

1. Interact more on other blogs

I’ve been doing this in 2015 but not as often as I want to. I want to be able to get to know other bloggers and spend time reading their blogs too.

2. Improve my Instagram feed

I wrote this goal before I’d found out that I was listed as one of the Top 10 Parent Instagrammers for 2015 by Tots100 but I want to take better photos as I have noticed that the ones I send from my big camera to my phone to Instagram, breathe, get more engagement than my more natural phone photos. Of course I don’t want to stear away from what’s actually true because the whole point of my journey is to record our memories.

3. Get to 1000 YouTube followers

2016 is the year I’m going to improve and publish more often on my YouTube channel. I’m not sure I’ll actually reach this number of followers but it’s something to aim for.

4. Focus on personal blog posts

2015 was a huge year for me with regards to working with brands. I’ve loved it and feel so incredibly lucky, but at the same time it put a lot of pressure on me. This year I still want to work with brands but I want to be more organised about it so that I’m not working on 100 (bit of an exaggeration) things at once.

5. Don’t be afraid to say no or negotiate more

This sort of ties in with the previous goal. I want to be a bit more select with what I accept or do.

6. Move house

This probably, most definitely won’t happen, but we are rapidly outgrowing our one and a half bed house (1 double 1 single). It would be lovely to be in a three bed for Christmas.

7. Learn how to use my DSLR in manual mode

This is going to be a slow process with lots of reading and researching but I’d love to be able to know how to shoot without being in automatic mode.

8. Say yes to the kids more

I am so guilty of saying “in a minute” or “we’ll do that tomorrow”, I want to learn to just say yes when they ask to do baking or painting or to the park. Despite what I need to get done or am doing at that second. Of course this won’t be all the time. 

9. Wean P2 and P3 from milk at night

Both my girls use milk to get to sleep. I want this to change so that I can have a decent night sleep every night. Quite a selfish goal. 

10. Get P2 dry at night and in knickers

P2 has been dry during the day for nearly a year at the end of January. But she’s always had a nappy on at night and wet it. I know she can go without a nappy as she does this at my mums house, but at home she asks for milk several times a night and wets. So this sort of ties in with the above goal.

11. Weigh 38kg

My failed goal of 2015. I currently have a BMI of 23 which is just 2 points away from being classed as obese for my height. That’s a little scary. I hated my own body image before I knew the stats but it’s made me determined to lose the weight and keep it off too. I have 6.9kg to lose which is a lot.

12. Have a date night/day once a month

P1 and P2 go for a sleepover with my Mum once a month. I want to organise a babysitter for P3 for a few hours during this time so that hubby and I can have quality time together without kids. We spend a lot of time together anyway which I am thankful for but its not the same as being child free.

13. Post on social media more regularly

This sort of ties in with my first goal. I want to engage with my readers and fellow bloggers. I need to up my game a bit more on social media, especially Twitter.

14. Drive the car more myself

We’ve had the car a few months now and I’ve only been behind the wheel three times. I want to become self sufficient again, take the kids out further than walking distance by myself and gain confidence in myself.

15. Save money

I have two things, that are related, that I want to save for. Both probably won’t happen this year as all our savings seem to go on car related things or days out which are far more important. But I hope to start saving for new passports for us so that we can go to Canada to visit family for a few weeks probably in 2017.

16. Have fun

This is my most important goal. I want to look back this time next year and be able to say that we’ve had the best time in 2016 creating amazing memories full of fun and happiness.

So there are my goals for this year. I feel so excited about what the year has in store for us. I hope that it’s a good year filled with health and happiness. What do you have planned for 2016?
