MAM Starter Set & Soother Pod Review

For P1 & P2 we used Tommee Tippee. Whether it was bottles, cups, spoons, soothers or even the steriliser – it was always Tommee Tippee. So when we recently decided to bottle feed P3 there was no question as to what we’d be using… or was there?!

P3 point blank refused the Tommee Tippee bottles. Reluctantly, I dusted off the MAM bottle we’d been given in our BritMums Live 2014 goody bag and sterilised it in our Tommee Tippee steriliser. Obviously, P3 took to it without any fuss so it was a very welcome opportunity of reviewing the MAM Starter Set and Soother Pod.

MAM products

The Starter Set includes:

2 x 130ml Anti Colic Bottles
2 x 160ml Anti Colic Bottles
4 x 260ml Anti Colic Middles
4 x Slow Flow Teats
4 x Sealing Discs
1 x Handles
1 x Spout
1 x Start Soother

The measurements on the bottles are slightly different to other bottles we’ve had. The measuring lines don’t finish on a full feed amount, for example the 160ml bottle would be five and a half scoops of formula which obviously cannot be measured correctly so you end up having five scoops and the bottle not completely full. This isn’t overly an issue as it actually means that there’s plenty of space to put all of the powder inside the top of the bottle without having to wait for it to dissolve like other brands of bottles I’ve used in the past.

MAM bottles

Everything is BPA free. The teats are slightly flat which I think is why P3 finds it so easy to latch. It fits to her mouth rather than her having to open very wide to latch. The bottles are anti-colic, the base is completely vented to stop baby from swallowing air.

MAM bottles are simply amazing I have to admit. They’re not the most straight forward of bottles to wash but they do make life simpler in other ways. Why? Well they’re self-sterilising. The bottles come apart in four parts; lid, teat, middles and base. To sterilise you put 20ml of water in the base, then place the teat on top of the base, screw the middle back on and pop the lid on top. You then put it in the microwave for 3 minutes, or plus a minute for ever extra bottle.

This means you can literally take the bottles with you and not worry about having a steriliser with you. All you need is a microwave.

MAM self sterilising

I love the eye catching colours of MAM and there’s a colour to suit everyone. On these particular bottles they have a cute bird design in the measuring lines.

The set also included a teat suitable for the transition between bottle to cup which I think is fantastic and saves the need for buying a separate cup. There’s also some handy handles. I really think MAM have thought of everything when designing their bottles. Including little caps for storage.

The Soother Pod is equally as beautiful. It’s easy to clean on the inside with a fabric outer. The pod zips up quickly too. It’s fantastic for keeping Soothers clean and fresh after being sterilised. I just wish this was self sterilising too as I’m a little concerned that the soother would be sterilised but the pod not.

Now all I have to do is buy some spare parts for the taller bottles so I can use them all at once!
