JOHNSON’S 3 Steps To Better Sleep

If you are a long term reader of my blog you will know that sleep is not my best friend. I had 19 months of broken sleep with P2 before we introduced P3 to the mix and it now equals to 3 years of broken sleep. So my experience of sleep certainly hasn’t been a good one and when JOHNSON’S asked me to take part in a two week test I just couldn’t say no. I am literally open to anything that could potentially help our situation.

Our little house only has a shower and P3 has her baths, once a week, in the downstairs kitchen sink. Having said that she is the only child of mine at this age that actually enjoys bath time so I’m really excited to be implementing a new routine which will include a bath each night. Something she is definitely not used to and that will push us out of our own comfort zones if I’m honest.

JOHNSON’S have a tried and tested 3 step bedtime routine that we are going to be introducing and it goes like this:

  1. Bath – Bath time is a multi-sensorial playground for both baby and parent. It’s a time to shut off from technologies and just focus on your baby. This benefits hand-eye coordination, memory and vocabulary senses.
  2. Massage – I attend baby massage classes when P2 was a baby and she really enjoyed it. It’s a great way to calm down before bed.
  3. Quiet Time – Reading a book, listening to music or singing songs just before bed. We have been provided with a book to help us during this time. It’s a time to get settled, bond and have a cuddle. When they are sleepy it is time to put them to bed in the usual way.

I will be filling in a special sleep diary for P3 who is 16 months old now and still usually wakes around three to four times from 7pm – 6:30am each night. My hopes for this new routine is that we will get a longer period of sleep between wake ups as I don’t think a miracle cure will happen that quickly, but you never know. I will be reporting back with our results in two weeks time.

  1. Your little princess sounds just like my youngest (Wriggly – 20 months). She still doesn’t sleep through and we’re also trying Johnson’s advice. Fingers crossed P3 wakes up a bit less now.
