“I’d forgotten how painful after-birth pains were”

I’d forgotten how painful after-birth pains were. I’ve been topped up on painkillers since the moment P3 was born. Every midwife or nurse that I spoke to at the hospital had said something along the lines of “oh yes especially with your third” when I told them how I was feeling. Great!!!

The pains feel like extremely bad period pains, or contractions, or even slightly like the huge urge to pass wind. They’re only meant to last a few days as your uterus contracts back to its original size. I get them really bad during a breastfeed which is making the first few days very uncomfortable.

As for my boobies, my milk certainly came full in last night. They are huge! Very firm and a little bit painful today. Where P3 is so diddy it looks like my boobs are bigger than her head!! This breastfeeding journey has started so differently. I was a clumsy mess with P2, not knowing what or where to put anything. But it’s different this time.

When we went to visit P3 in special care the nurses asked how I was planning to feed her. They then said they’d go and grab a dividing screen for privacy. I laughed, and began taking my top off ready to feed. I’ve got more confidence this time, although I haven’t actually been out in public yet or even worn a nursing bra. I’ve been slouching about in my baggy top since her birth.

P3 is my last baby. We know that. Her arrival was dramatic and she’s extremely precious, I don’t want to waste any time I have with her. But I’m missing P2, it’s just different at home but we’re getting there. Yesterday was much easier and hubby managed to stay in bed with me all night. We actually got a good night sleep. P2 woke once at 4am, P3 woke every 2-3hours but only needed a feed.

Things are looking brighter. I’m going to attempt the school run later with hubby’s help.

Sounds like you are doing so so well! Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to be supermum! Just read your birth and first night posts too and am so glad and massively impressed to hear all is going so well. Gorgeous shots of the big sisters with P3, you really are doing so so well. I hope the afterpains ease off soon! xx

Congratulations on the birth of P3 she is adorable. After birth pains are a nightmare, even when you have had a c section like I did! I hope the pain settles for you soon and your ‘boobies’ don’t make you too uncomfortable
