I have lived in a total of six properties since having P1 nearly nine years ago. Each one I have rented and due to strict rules, I have never decorated because I felt I was making somebody elses home better. I day dreamed about the day that I could hang photos, decorate a room and truly make somewhere my own.
I have been super excited for such a long time to share that we finally have our forever home. On Friday 15th September we picked up the keys to our new home. It felt so odd in that moment. I felt fear, excitement and sadness all in a matter of moments. I felt sick and shaky. This was my long term dream finally coming true.
When we moved to Kent four years ago at the beginning of September, we was looking for a rented home that would help us to put our foot on Kent soil. We wanted to get a feel of the area without being set in stone as such.
That’s what our little cottage was. It was small for us when we was just a family of four and then when P3 came along and they all began to grow rapidly, we knew we couldn’t be in that home for much longer without all of us falling out big time.
All of that doesn’t really matter anymore. We have our forever home. As I am writing this just a few days after getting our keys, our new home is quite frankily a blank canvas and is quite run down. We have a very short time to give it some love so that we can move in. Realistically it needs more than love.
The entire house is empty. The walls need washing, sanding down slightly, painting from top to bottom and having a carpet laid throughout the upstairs and downstairs. It’s slightly scary and I’m finally feeling like a proper grown up making big decisions about paint colours, carpet type and appliances for the kitchen.
Our old/current home holds so many amazing memories. I had a few tears whilst I sat in our modern shower room. I’ve actually hated living here yet love it so completely too. We’ve had amazing landlords, we have got some lovely neighbours in the area and it’s a lovely community here.
But our new home is going to present us with so much more. We will have a garden (a blooming big one!) for the girls to play and the guinea-pigs to explore, we have a bath, P1 finally has her own bedroom, we finally have a bedroom where we can walk around our bed, we have a dining room that we can do crafts and eat as a family in.
I plan to film an empty house tour, a completed house tour and you’ll see snippets in my Vlogtember vlogs over on my YouTube channel in the next coming weeks so please subscribe if you like that sort of thing, or if you are just nosey. I also want to do room by room blog posts showcasing the before and after photos because it’s going to be a big transformation.
It’s really exciting and I can’t wait to document this huge milestone for us as a family.
