I think by the sixth day, heading towards the end of our week, everyone was getting rather emotional and tired. The girls were becoming a little bit difficult but thankfully we had a new experience for the girls to enjoy, a Steam Railway.
To be honest I don’t really know much about the Isle Of Wight and it’s history so it was really lovely to learn a little whilst visiting the five mile Steam Railway. Those five miles for the steam trains and an eight mile main line from Ryde to Shanklin are now all that remain of a railway system which once was over 55 miles across the Isle of Wight.
There are four stations to explore along the steam railway. Havenstreet being the main one with the most exciting things going on. There’s also a Falconry Centre there too. The girls really enjoyed riding inside an old fashioned steam train and even I found it quite interesting too. It was a lovely chilled day with a picnic, icecream and a play in the park there.
After exploring each station, riding the steam train several times on the track, watching a bird display and getting pretty worn out, it was time to head back to Blackgang Chine. When you buy entry to Blackgang, they give you a 7 day return for free offer which I think is great. We actually didn’t stay for too long as the girls were hungry and tired so we ventured back to Kempshill Farm to enjoy a supermarket takeaway curry!
