Annabel Karmel Quick & Easy Weaning and Family Cookbook Review

When it comes to cook books, to be successful you have to have something that’s different to the rest to stand out. I was given my first copy of a weaning book by Annabel Karmel five years ago. I got the chance to meet Annabel and have my book signed at the first ever Baby Show I attended whilst pregnant with P1 and from that moment I was hooked. She’s a really lovely woman and very talented. I used her little ready meal children’s meals for P1 which became my weaning aid.

We’ve been lucky to be given the chance to review not one but two of AK’s latest cookbooks – Annabel’s Family Cookbook and Quick & Easy Weaning.

I originally thought that AK was very focused on children and baby nutrition but after reading through all the different recipes included in her new Family Cookbook I can see that I was very wrong. This book is filled easy recipes to make fantastic healthy meals that all the family will enjoy.

The photography inside is amazing and makes the food look so delicious. The recipes themselves are set out in a way which is very simple to follow – listing ingredients and methods. The cookbook is hard back which makes it easy to stay open whilst cooking.

The only downside I have of this cookbook is the title font used throughout. It’s not a font you can easily make out when flicking through recipes.

The Quick & Easy Weaning book is fabulous! It’ll certainly be the book I turn to when P3 weans. Right at the beginning of the book it gives plenty of tips on weaning and allergies. At each stage of weaning there’s a really useful meal plan that you can follow which is something I always struggled with – knowing if I was giving enough of a variety each day.

The recipes are easy to follow and are extremely quick and simple to put together which if you’re like me and strapped for time, quick meals are essential. Annabel recognises this and has provided parents with a fantastic book to follow during what can be a stressful time of weaning. Again the photography in the cookbook is astounding and makes everything look so appetising. The recipes are suitable from first tastes all the way through their first year. I also think that some of the more “finger food” ideas would be fantastic for lunch boxes for older children.

I love both these books equally. You can get your own copy of the Annabel’s Family Cookbook for £9 on Amazon and the Quick & Easy Weaning is just £6.99. Annabel Karmel has a huge range of cook books out for all stages of family life from pregnancy to family dining which can be found on her website.

(We were gifted the two books for the purpose of this review. However all opinions and photos are of my own)

  1. Annabel Karmel’s book was by far the best when I was weaning my daughter. I still use some of her recipes even now!

  2. Those sound like great cookbooks – I love collecting new ones but I really need my OH to put me a new shelf up – no room left! #weekendbloghop
